How Much Sleep Do You Need?

Too little sleep can affect nearly every aspect of your life, including your mood, mental alertness, work performance, and energy level. Based on the multitude of TV commercials these days, it seems that sleep disorders are an emerging epidemic…an epidemic that needs drugs to resolve.

Let’s collect your story-How do you get a good night’s sleep?

According to the website, everydayhealth.com, Ambien is one of the top 40 most prescribed medications and, as such, we thought you should know a little more about it.

Ambien is used for short-term treatment of insomnia (difficulty falling or staying asleep).

This medicine is a sedative-hypnotic and it is thought that it works by helping to increase certain natural chemicals in the brain that cause sleep.

While that sounds harmless enough on the surface, a quick look under the hood reveals some very important information.  While all drugs may cause side effects, these are the MOST COMMON side effects among people using Ambien:Diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness (including daytime drowsiness); "drugged" feeling; dry mouth; headache; nausea; nose or throat irritation; sluggishness; stomach upset.

The SEVERE side effects can include:

Rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the hands, legs, mouth, face, lips, eyes, throat, or tongue; unusual hoarseness; abnormal thinking; behavior changes; chest pain; confusion; decreased coordination; difficulty swallowing or breathing; fainting; fast or irregular heartbeat; hallucinations; memory problems; memory loss; mental or mood changes like aggression, agitation, anxiety, depression; severe dizziness; shortness of breath; suicidal thoughts or actions; vision changes.

There simply must be a better way!!!

We did a little research for you and found an audio CD on “The Art of Self-Relaxation”  that is available on Amazon.  If you, or someone you know, has difficulty sleeping, why not consult with us about how chiropractic may add to one’s quality of life and quality of rest.  Chiropractic offers SIDE BENEFITS rather than side effects and among the most common side benefits we hear from our patients is that they sleep better and have more energy…let us help you too!
